Dear Student! Dear University Citizen!
The University of Pécs is strongly committed to providing the safest environment possible to its citizens. The leadership of the university has been taking all necessary measures from the beginning in order to prevent the spreading of seasonal, community-acquired disease, in line with the recommendations of relevant authorities.
As you may already know, a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has been identified in the background of an epidemic of pneumonia (COVID-2019) in Wuhan (China) at the end of 2019. The virus can cause serious respiratory disease, human to human transmission of the virus has been confirmed, it spreads by droplets and by direct or indirect contact with infected secretions. The incubation period is 2-14 days, on average 5 days. The contaminated person may infect even during incubation. It is important to stress that so far no confirmed or suspected patient has been reported at the University of Pécs.
In recent days not only Asian countries have been detected as the focal point of the spread of the virus, but also European countries and even Hungary have reported the virus infection. The main areas currently affected are China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Iran and Italy. Information on the current situation and new areas concerned can be found on the World Health Organization website (https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus).
In view of this, the operational staff of the University of Pécs, in accordance with the professional recommendations of the authorities, does not recommend travel to areas reportedly affected by the epidemic. If you have been to these countries in the last 14 days, stay at home for 14 days after arriving in Hungary and minimize contact with others (you can get an exemption from your classes by showing the date stamp on your passport in your respective Registrar’s Office).

The risk of infection can be reduced by following a few simple hygienic rules, which are summarized in below. Please, pay special attention to complying with these rules – considering they are useful in the prevention against the current flu as well!
- Thoroughly wash your hands regularly and adhere to the basic hygienic recommendations and the coughing/sneezing etiquette! Ask others to act similarly!
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose with unclean hands, avoid usual forms of greeting with direct physical contact, e.g. handshakes, kisses.
- Please follow the instructions on the university campuses for proper handwashing and hygiene, and use the hand sanitizers at the main entrances!
- Only wear a face mask if you already have flu symptoms.
