A studying methodology course has been launched at our Faculty: The goal is to increase the success of students' studies

29 October 2020

An interactive Studying Methodology course started in September at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Pécs. A study methodology course was launched in the autumn semester of the 2020/2021 academic year within the framework of the EFOP-3.4.3-16-2016-00005 application. The course, organized by faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmacy, was designed to support students in accordance with their university competencies after entering higher education. In addition, the course allows you to acquire the theoretical background and practical practices needed to conduct effective and successful studies.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic situation, the course was organized online in Microsoft Teams, both in Hungarian and English, so Hungarian and English students also participate in it, in groups, in the form of 1 hour of lectures and 1 hour of seminars per week. The course is mainly attended by first-year students, but there was also interest from second- and third-year students.

How can participants get acquainted with the course?

During the learning methodology course, students will be introduced to learning methods and approaches that can be used in the successful learning of any subject and will help them pass the exams. The aim of the course is to develop and practice studying sub-abilities, skills, attitudes such as attention, reading, comprehension, emphasis, memory and thinking. It is important for the student to analyze their own learning habits and strategies and, if necessary, to be able to make changes based on what they have learned for more effective, enjoyable studying. After mastering the theoretical basics of the lectures, students have the opportunity to try and practice each technique in the framework of the seminars.

Participants can get acquainted with the essence, qualities and components of the Studying Methodology, which they can build in into their own studies. In the interactive classes, they can think together and share their experiences, questions, and ideas. During the course, everyone conducts regular self-assessments. The course can currently be completed online, but there is also the possibility of an online consultation for 1-1 people per person, and in the future we will also provide a personal consultation if the epidemic situation allows that opportunity.

Who are the instructors and facilitators of the course?

  • lectures: Dr. Ágnes Farkas, course director, associate professor, Department of Pharmacognosy
