Boost up your learning and communiaction skills! Information about the Learning Support Program at the Faculty of Pharmacy

19 November 2020

University dropout is the most common cause of failure in the academic progress. This term is in fact a process indicator, referring to the possible consequences in the process. Low levels or lack of education are associated with the risk of early exclusion from the labor market, which poses a high risk to the student's future.

The learning support program we have developed at the Faculty of Pharmacy can make a significant contribution to solving this problem. The primary goal of the project is to reduce the dropout rate of students in English language training. We focus primarily on those subjects where the exam failure rate is higher (difficult) and individually on those students who are vulnerable to student status termination.

In the program, there are senior students (also called Learning Support Mentors), who will help the students learning for 1-1 hours at least 2 times a week, which mostly means coaching and not necessarily teaching. The methods of learning support include the encouragement of continuous learning, as well as the solution of obstacles, issues and problems that arise in the path of the mentored student during his / her studies. The learning activity can be implemented in person or online, with the agreement of both the mentor and the mentee.

Cooperative learning improves students' performance, perseverance and attitude. The project is implemented with the participation of Hungarian students, creating a closer relationship between the two communities. Also, this way a different perspective of successful examination can be shared within the concerned students. Student collaboration-based learning exploits this connection to achieve content-centric and process-oriented goals that are important for the success of university knowledge acquisition. Collaboration helps to develop marketable skills such as: problem solving, project management, team player competencies, communication and social skills.

WE RECOMMEND ALL STUDENTS WHO HAVE RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM THE FACULTY STAFF AND WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE PROGRAM TO SEND AN E-MAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO JANOSA.GERGELY@GYTK.PTE.HU AS WE HAVE TO FACILITATE THE PROGRESS OF THE LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAM.
