The primary research profile of the Institute of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry (SZGYKI) is preparative organic chemistry. Following the traditions of the institute's founders, we primarily deal with the production of stable nitroxide free radical compounds, nitrones, and the synthesis of their derivatives (see points 1-7). In Hungary, only SZGYKI is engaged in this type of research, and in Europe there are only 8-10 groups conducting such research. This activity is also supported by routine analytics (see point 8), and we also provide these services to other institutes and external partners on an occasional basis. If our equipment and chemical resources allow, we also undertake contract synthesis under a contractual framework (see point 9).
1. Synthesis of new paramagnetic heterocyclic compounds
2. Synthesis and application of alicyclic nitrone spin traps
3. Synthesis of SH-specific spin-labeled compounds
4. Research on cardioprotective antioxidant pharmacones
5. Synthesis and structural analysis of free radical-labeled biomolecules (amino acids, proteins, drugs, phospholipids)
6. Synthesis of PARP-inhibiting 5- and 6-membered nitrogen heterocycles
7. Synthesis of dual (spin and fluorescent) labeling materials
8. MS, IR, microanalysis, ESR, UV-VIS, polarimetric routine studies
9. Labor synthesis on demand and isolation of phase products, as well as synthesis of possible by-products.
