Current issues in pharmacy practice – highlights from the Education Program in Győr

14 March 2025

In early March, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs organized an engaging and content-rich continuing education program in Győr, featuring 25 lectures. The event provided not only professional insights but also a valuable community experience for members of the pharmaceutical profession.

Organized in collaboration with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Organization of the Hungarian Chamber of Pharmacists, this three-day mandatory refresher course took place in a relaxed yet high-quality setting, offering opportunities for professional dialogue and fostering both professional and collegial relationships.

The program was structured into thematic sessions covering key issues in community pharmacy and hospital-clinical pharmacy. Topics included regulatory perspectives, professional policy discussions, marketing challenges in pharmacy services, experiences with adherence programs, and the future of pharmaceutical counseling. Speakers provided insightful summaries on the expectations and opportunities of the new generation of professionals, the latest developments in drug marketing, and the reasons behind the popularity of so-called "miracle cures." The presentations also addressed the role of pharmacists in vaccination programs, pandemic preparedness, and their contributions to public health initiatives. Special emphasis was placed on combating antimicrobial resistance and the critical role of both community and hospital-clinical pharmacists in infection control.

The highly informative three-day program concluded with sessions on forensic and toxicological knowledge, as well as innovations in pharmaceutical technology. Notably, beyond theoretical knowledge, participants had the opportunity to practice resuscitation techniques.

The event, held in the beautiful city of Győr, was made truly memorable by the enthusiastic and cheerful attitude of the organizing team from Pécs, the attentiveness of the staff at Széchenyi István University, and the openness and interactivity of the participants. A Women's Day greeting and the recognition of Dr. András Süle as an honorary associate professor of the Faculty further enriched the occasion, adding a celebratory touch while strengthening the sense of unity within the pharmaceutical professional community.

Throughout the program, key figures and esteemed experts in the field shared their insights and experiences with attendees. Despite the informal atmosphere, the discussions remained professional, friendly, and inspiring, allowing participants to explore new perspectives. The dynamic exchanges among attendees highlighted that pharmacy is not just a scientific discipline but also a community where collaboration and knowledge-sharing play a crucial role.

This event was a perfect example of how a professional gathering can be made engaging and personable. Beyond knowledge-sharing, it reinforced the cohesion of the professional community.
