On 25 November at 7:00 PM, festive melodies will once again fill the Dr. György Romhányi Aula of the Medical School at the University of Pécs: the traditional Advent Concert will be held for the 15th time. The event is free of charge, and not only members of the faculty but also residents of Pécs and all interested guests are warmly welcome.
The concert series was launched in 2009 by Dr. Balázs Fülöp, staff member of the Departments of Anatomy and Primary Health Care, and since then both the Advent and Spring concerts have become defining events of the faculty’s community life.
The aim of the concert is to offer a shared experience and spiritual enrichment to students, lecturers, staff, and the public as Christmas approaches. Performers – students and employees of the faculty – prepare a diverse selection of musical and artistic pieces, ranging from classical and light music to Christmas songs and contemporary works. The audience can enjoy string, wind and acoustic ensembles as well as piano performances on the concert grand located in the Aula.
This year’s concert will once again feature an international atmosphere: both Hungarian and international students will take the stage, often performing together, creating a truly multicultural experience. In addition to the PTE Voice POTEntial choir formed in 2023, the Advent Concert will also mark the debut of the newly formed symphony orchestra, composed of students from the Medical and Pharmacy Faculties. As a unique initiative within the faculty brought to life by a music project, the orchestra will present an exciting, varied repertoire showcasing the students’ dedication and musical talents.
The Bajnóczky Award is also presented annually at the event by the Dean of the Faculty, in recognition of students and staff who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of literature, music, fine arts, theatre, photography, or dance.
The detailed programme will be published by the organisers soon.
