Virtual Escape Room for World Water Day

How does river water become safe drinking water? Why does water quality matter in pharmaceutical production?

World Water Day is celebrated every year on March 22 to raise awareness about the importance of clean water and sustainable water use. In connection with this, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs has created a special interactive online game that takes participants on the journey of water—from nature all the way to patient care—through a virtual escape room experience.

In this Genially-based digital game, participants become part of a mission, making decisions and solving tasks to explore how natural water sources are transformed into clean and controlled water that can be safely used for drinking water supply, healthcare, and pharmaceutical production.

The goal of the game is to show, in an experiential way, that water is not only a natural resource but also a cornerstone of health safety and responsible pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Science in a playful way

The program is designed for two age groups, so each participant encounters challenges appropriate to their knowledge level. During the game, participants can follow the path of water while experiencing the decisions and processes required to ensure that water quality meets healthcare and pharmaceutical standards.

The initiative was developed by experts from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pécs. The game was created by Dr. Beáta Lemli, assistant professor and sustainability coordinator, and Dr. Szilárd Pál, institute director and Vice-Dean for Organizational Development and Relations, with the aim of presenting scientific knowledge in anunderstandable and engaging way to the wider public.

The game highlights that water quality is not just an environmental issue—it is a fundamental requirement for healthcare and pharmaceutical safety.

Game and Prizes

The virtual mission offers both knowledge and excitement. Among the participants, prizes will be drawn in three categories, with three gift packages awarded per category.
